Earlier today, the Eastchester Volunteer Ambulance Corps (EVAC) hosted its first annual St Baldrick’s event at the Broken Bow Brewery in Tuckahoe. EVAC has been affiliated with the St Baldrick’s Foundation since 2009, and to date has raised over $54,000 for this great non-for-profit organization whose goal is to raise funds to help find cures for childhood cancer. This organization works with volunteers (sponsored by family, friends, and employers) who shave their heads or "chop" their ponytails in solidarity with children who typically lose their hair during cancer treatment, in order to raise funds.
This year our team welcomed first-time shavees and staff members: Anson Augustine, Neil Toomb, and Richard Pena. Also, Kevin Lynch and I joined the ranks of "Commander" which recognized our dedication of ten years of service to the St. Baldrick's Foundation. A huge shout out gos to our Top Fundraiser and first time shavee Abigail Garcia, who raised over $850.
A special Thank You to Kristen Stone of Broken Bow Brewery (http://www.brokenbowbrewery.com) for being an awesome venue host and making our first event a success. Also a big Thank You to Walter’s Hot Dogs (http://www.waltershotdogs.com) for coming out to support the event and feeding our brave shavees, their friends and family, and all our guests that came by to support us. EVAC would also like to thank Sports Clips of Hartsdale (https://sportclips.com) for sending over barbers, because without them, our staff wouldn't be bald and beautiful.
On behalf of EVAC, we thank you all for your generous donations and continued support as we are dedicated to fight and find a cure for childhood cancer. See everyone next year!
